How the checker reaches its result
The size-to-distance check uses the familiar 10:1 starting point: a 30 mm code is treated as a reasonable starting size for a scan from about 30 cm. This is a planning heuristic, not a universal scanner specification. Dense payloads, curved packaging, glare, motion, camera quality, damage, and unusual printing processes can all require a larger code.
The quiet-zone check expects four blank modules around the symbol. Contrast receives its own warning because reversed or low-contrast artwork can be less forgiving even when the geometry is correct. Device and material tests are required because a mathematical check cannot reproduce ink spread, laminate glare, folds, or the camera used by a real visitor.
A repeatable proofing method
- Export the final SVG or high-resolution PNG, including its quiet zone.
- Place it in the real design at the final physical size; do not test an enlarged substitute.
- Print on the intended stock and apply any laminate or finish used in production.
- Test the finished piece with at least two different phones from the intended distance.
- Test the destination while signed out, then keep a fallback URL or instruction beside the code.
What this tool deliberately does not claim
It does not decode an uploaded image, certify ISO compliance, or guarantee performance across all cameras. It is designed to catch common, observable production mistakes early and to document which physical checks remain. For a dense code or a high-cost print run, make several size variants and choose the smallest version that passes repeated tests with comfortable margin.
